Need help/

I don't know if anyone has had the same results as I have had, 5 yrs ago Doctor tells me I have diabetes 2 --begin checking my blood sugar every day always 4.5/5.5. later I change Doctor the new Doctor tells me I don't have diabetes. Week ago, I was told I now have diabetes 2 and I have to wait until April 14 to see a Diabetes Nurse. in the mean time I need to get some strips for Accu-Chek machine that I purchased on the Net. the strips were missing from the order. I don't want to pay $50 for strips as I don't need many, in a few weeks I will get prescriptions for them. 5 years ago, I had a card that I showed when I went to the chemist. anyone know where I can get a few strips for testing, I have started a diet, cant do much exercise as for the last 3 years I have been carer for my Wife 24/7. the doctor gave me tablets for the diabetes.

  1. Sounds like you may be under a lot of stress being the carer of your wife, you can get a test that you do at the hospital where you drink a very sweet drink, and then they monitor your glucose levels. In the mean time, you can get a free glucose monitor from the pharmacist and you get some free test strips with it.

  2. Hi . Since you used the word "chemist," I'm guessing you live in the UK. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the system there, but maybe someone else in the community knows where you can get them. Have you reached out to your doctor's office? Maybe they have some samples or some extras they can give you? - Lori (Team Member)

  3. Thanks. I ended up paying top price for strips—$ 44 for 100. I do have a problem with using strips, and I keep getting error 3 on the monitor. These waste strips, I am doing everything correctly and keeping a record of tests, testing over two weeks, results between 5.0 and 7.8. I do know what to eat and not to eat, yet there are times when the results don't seem correct. I had a meal that included a piece of grilled fish, a battered potato cake, and a bottle of low-carb beer 2 hours after the test result 5.0

    1. Hi . It's frustrating when you are eating right, but the numbers don't reflect it. However, there are a lot of other factors that can impact blood sugar levels, such as sleep, exercise, medications and stress. Here is an article that discusses some of those other factors: https://type2diabetes.com/living/factors-affect-blood-glucose. It might be helpful to keep a journal of the circumstances when you test. For instance, along with the test results, you could jot down how well your slept that night, what kind of mood you're in, whether you've been physically active since you ate, how long it's been since you ate. All those details will help you figure out what is influencing your blood sugar levels. Eventually, maybe you can invest in a continuous glucose monitor. CGMs can be really effective in helping people bring their blood sugar under control. - Lori (Team Member)

  4. That sounds really frustrating, especially with everything going on. Some pharmacies might have smaller packs or short term options while you wait for your prescription. Hope you’re able to get what you need soon. Has anyone found a good short term option for strips?
