Testing blood sugar after eating

Please delete if not allowed.
My endocrinologist wants me to make a list of what I eat in order to see if my diet is affecting my blood sugar. It seems to me the best way to find that out is to also test my blood sugar after eating but he doesn't want me to do that. He only wants me to test before I eat. Does that make any sense?

  1. – hmmm... that is interesting. I hope if anyone else has heard this advice, they will share their experiences.

Have you been able to ask your doctor for his rationale? Most people will check their blood sugar before and after they eat to test to see if a type of food may affect their blood sugar. Christopher explains his method here: https://type2diabetes.com/nutrition/blood-sugar-after-food. Here's also a more general article on when to check: https://type2diabetes.com/nutrition/when-check-blood-sugar. I think it is a good idea to track what foods you eat too. I hope you are able to get some more answers soon.

    1. Both

      1. Hi there, checking both before and after sounds good to me. Do you find this helps you to maintain a healthy blood sugar? -Lauren (team member)

    2. Before eating

      1. Thanks for sharing that you check your blood sugar before meals. Do you take insulin? Does this allow you to figure out how much to give yourself? Wishing you all the best, Lauren (team member)

    3. Before

      1. Thanks for chiming in, ! I imagine it could be very helpful to do both. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)
