Medication pioglitazone, generic Actos

I was prescribed pioglitazone, generic Actos, 1 year ago along with a CGM.
I have gained about 18 lbs. and cannot lose it even eating less and trying to walk more. I also have CKD, and my nephrologist recently recommended speaking with my PCP about Ozempic. She feels that it would help with weight, help with my CKD and keep blood sugars and blood pressure in check. It is quite frustrating since my A1C is at 6.5. Anyone else use pioglitazone and feeling frustrated?

  1. I'm sorry you are dealing with this! Kidney and liver disease (NASH) are common comorbidities of T2D (chronic diseases that exist at the same time). Both are considered to be metabolic syndromes. Pioglitazone is commonly prescribed to treat NASH. If you haven't already, you might wish to talk to your doctor about your frustration with the treatment plan. Maybe there will be an alternative that can work for you.
