How many carbs suggested daily

I’ve had pre diabetes for about 10 years & researched a lot in the beginning. If I remember correctly, 40-60 carbs daily was recommended. My husband was just diagnosed as well. The literature he received says 50-75 per meal. I’ve been denying myself breads, potatoes & the like. If I’m able to eat more carbs, that would be great, however I didn’t want to just add them without checking.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

  1. Hi , That's a very good question. It could be that gender or other factors play a role in how many carbs you should consume. The person who can advise you best is your dietitian or your doctor. If you haven't already, see what they say. I found an article for you that discusses why counting carbs is often suggested. And here's another article that discusses good vs bad carbs, which may give a guide about which carbs can be safely eaten. All the best, Kathy (Team member)

    1. Thanks. He did go to a nutritionist, and learned a lot. Guess I should 😉

  2. Hi , I’ve had prediabetes for a year. If you’ve been managing it well with fewer carbs, there’s no need to increase them unless you have a reason to. That said, you can try adding small portions of healthy carbs like whole grains, sweet potatoes, or legume, especially if you're tracking your BS.
Try and see how your body reacts, and adjust based on the results. It’s trial and error.
