GLP-1 agonists are a powerful tool — but they are not a free pass

I have seen a lot of people treat GLP-1 medications like a get-out-of-jail-free card: "I am on semaglutide now, I can eat whatever I want, my numbers will stay fine."
They are powerful, and they help a lot of people. But they are a tool, not a reset button.
What they do is blunt your appetite and lower your post-meal sugar peaks. They do not fix the underlying insulin resistance that got you to this point. If you go back to the same late nights, the same no-movement days, the same constant stress, the underlying metabolic imbalance is still there, waiting. The second you adjust the dose, or come off the medication, the numbers drift right back.
This is not an argument against taking them. If your clinician says they make sense for you, take them. But use the window they give you: while your appetite is calmer and your numbers are more stable, build the actual habits that will keep you well for life — the regular meals, the movement after meals, the sleep, the stress management. The medication buys you time. It does not replace the work.
