Have you tried a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) to manage your diabetes?

We're curious about the community's experience with Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs). They are becoming more common for tracking blood glucose levels and managing type 2 diabetes.

If you have ever used a CGM, how did it go for you? Share what you liked most about the experience and what you found difficult or frustrating. Share your experiences with others here!

  1. i really enjoy using my cgm until medicare took them away from me they helped me keep my numbers in range and i didn't have to prick my fingers i forgot to say i am not on insulin i use jardiance and moungoro

    1. I'm sorry to hear that Medicare will no longer pay for a CGM. What a shame, especially since it was working well for you. Gentle hugs. - Lori (Team Member)

  2. I have been using a CGM for many years. After some tweaking, the cgm I use has improved with their adhesive so it can stay on for 15 days straight. If an error of some kind did occur, customer service is very pleasant and it is very easy to get a free replacement. This is especially helpful if you get a lot of MRI scans, as the test will interfere with the sensors correctness.
I am an active 49 year old female who sweats alot. I find that it is very good to have the sensor, skintac adhesive wipe, and a bandage placed on top of sensor to ensure the sensor stays in place for the duration of it's life. This also helps when you are in the pool or water/ shower/bath for longer than the 30 minute recommendation.
We hike and walk alot and I've found using the cgm is far better than using a fingerstick meter due to being out in the boonies. This helps me to regulate my blood glucose lows by helping me see when I need a break and a snack.
I'm currently on insulin because I have been inactive due to a surgery 8 weeks ago, keeping me off my feet. Several times, when I've had surgery, I've been able to regain full function, along with healthy eating lifestyle(and food tracking), and be able to completely stop insulin. This is my goal always: to be a better version of myself and manage my health issues. With the cgm, I am always aware of when I am in need of more activity and when I need to balance that activity with rest. The CGM has also gone down in price by $25 a month, which helps my budget. There are many reasons why one should use a CGM. If you have any issues when you use it, it is easy to contact your provider and the manufacturer. Thank you for your time.

    1. Thanks for all the great tips and insight! I'm glad it's working out for you and that it's coming down in price. Hopefully, that will make it more accessible to more people. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

  3. Yes I use a CGM and when I first started using one I had the Freestyle Libre and I loved it. Then the insurance company changed to where I could only use the Dexcom 7. Last week I had an up date on my android phone and my CGM app says I might not get accurate reading with this update.
Just taking things a day at a time.

    1. Hi . I hope the Dexcom 7 works out for you and that the readings are on point. Let us know how it goes, if you don't mind. Thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)

  4. I’ve been using the Dexcom G7 for about 18 months. I’ve learned that the readings for the first 24 hours are not accurate so don’t freak out. CGM for the most part are directional but it is good to have one. Just remember, the foods that you eat won’t show on the Dexcom for a minimum of 30-45 minutes.

    1. Hi there! Thanks for sharing your experience with the Dexcom G7. I'm glad that you have found it helpful! All the best, Lauren (Team member)
