Prediabetes and a Higher Metformin Dose

Hello, I've been on 500 mg of metformin for 2 years. My a1c stays around 5.9
Last week I had a fibroscan and found that I have severe fatty liver but no fibrosis.
If I go up on the metformin to 1000 mg will that help the fatty liver more? I don't mean burn fat off the liver because that happens best with diet, exercise and weight loss but by making the liver produce less glucose and not be stored as fat?
