freestyle libre 2 sensor ABBOTT SUCKS

why would Abbott make this ? an uncontrolable alarm that goes off below 70, above 150 and when your phone is out of range... and it overrides your phone system, SCREECHING loud enough to wake entire household in middle of night, at church, in a library... this system is the most offensive irritating and ridiculous thing ever thought up. Further more, ABBOTT refuses to honor or replace the sensors if they fail, and you dont call it in IMMEDIATELY... I have had 6 sensor failures; contacted ABBOTT was told that they would not replace the units because I waited to call the failures in.
DESPITE THE GUARANTEE, DESPITE THE FACT THAT THERE IS NO, REPEAT, NO INSTRUCTIONS TO THAT AFFECT, NO WRITTEN TENETS OF GUARANTEE OR ANYTHING RELATING TO PROTOCOLS FOR WHEN YOU ARE REQUIRED TO CALL IT IN....

DONT BUY ABBOTT PRODUCTS

  1. Oh that sounds terrible. Appreciate you sharing your experience with us. Is there no way to change the alarm parameters? Have you been able to find an alternate meter that may work better for you? Best, Kelly, Type2diabetes.com Community Moderator

    1. Well, I've been using the Libre 2 for just a week and using it with my iphone I can change the alarm settings, and the alarm sounds can be modified. I'm a type 2 taking oral meds only and while it takes some getting used to, I think it's going to be great😀

    2. Thank you for posting this. My Dr was concerned about too many lows so he had me try a Freestyle Libre. It was horrible! I was continuously getting low alarms, many in the middle of the night, and I would finger stick to find I wasn’t low at all…actually 20-30 pts above what the Libre said. After 3 days of this I called and told him what was happening. He said to take it off and get rid of it. He said too many patients were having issues with it and he would be speaking to his rep.
I did some research and found out the Libre was NOT an actual CGM but instead was a flash- CGM…meaning it was sending a reading from 15 minutes ago, as it only reads every 15 minutes. Whereas the Dexcom G6 is an actual CGM and sends readings every minute. Both are measuring from the interstitial fluid and not blood, which does tend to be slightly off from a finger stick. Be aware the Dexcom G6 is more expensive though.

      1. I had similar issues with the original Freestyle Libre. You're absolutely right about the original Freestyle Libre being a flash CGM. My first and only time using it, the sensor died within 9 days. I've heard that the Libre 2 & 3 are much better than the original because you're able to set alarms. However, my insurance doesn't cover Freestyle Libre.- CJ (Community Moderator)

    3. I just started using the Freestyle 2 Libre 14 days ago. Just changed to my second sensor tonight. I ended up using the actual monitor instead of my phone by accident when I was setting it up. So now I will see how the phone app works. I really have had no problems for the first 2 weeks. I did turn off the out of range alarm though because I have it with me all the time. I have it on vibrate and it's a loud enough vibrate to wake me in my sleep. In fact I had a low one night and it woke me from a good sleep. I am on insulin so I am happy to have this system. I don't usually feel my lows at night at all. I guess nothing is ever a perfect product. There will always be duds or defects.
