Trying to understand why the foods i eat take so long to register

I just got diagnosed with t2. 65yo.
Dr put me on metfrorum and glimepride along with long acting insulin.
I have a bgm g7. I'm trying to learn how different foods react with my bgm.
It seems that everything I eat doesn't show up as a result for 12 hours.

I don't get the instant input like what happens 30 min , 1 hour, 2 hours .

If I have my big meal of +-60g carbs i don't see the effects for over 12 hours.
Am I expecting too much from a blood glucose meter to show relatively quick results?

  1. Hi . Blood sugar usually spikes within one to two hours after eating a meal. So, if you test in that range, you should get a fairly accurate and current reading. It is odd that you are not seeing any impact. Have you tried calling the medical supply store where you purchase it? They might be able to figure our what's going on. Here is an article about using blood glucose monitors that you might find interesting: https://type2diabetes.com/living-with-t2d/home-blood-glucose-monitoring.
Since you are on insulin, your insurance might cover the cost of a continuos glucose monitor. With a GMG, you can monitor your results in real time. You might find it worthwhile to discuss whether you would benefit from one with your doctor. It can be easier to use and interpret than a BGM. I hope this helps.

    1. Yes I qualified for a bgm. I find it odd that it takes over 5 hours to register the impact of what i eat. Sometimes 7.
I get results within 2 hours if I use the standard finger test.
I'm trying to understand the patterns.

      1. Hi there, thanks for taking the time to follow up and provide further information. I agree with my colleague, Lori, that perhaps your should follow up with your medical device provider and your doctor. The device should be giving you accurate real time readings (that's the benefit of a CGM!). Please let us know how you make out. -Lauren (team member)
