Being treated badly by someone in the medical field of treating diabetes.

When I initially found out I was a diabetic. I was referred to a Endocrinologist. I was sitting in the exam room waiting for the doctor to enter for a least thirty minutes. I'm nervous and slightly afraid about my diagnosis. I felt as if I had received a death sentence. The doctor walked in looking annoyed and said why are you here. I replied that I wasn't quite sure as to how you can help me. He said with a hint of annoyance in is voice. Well first of all your severely obese you need to loose weight. I was speechless. I'm 5'2 and at that time I was 150 pounds. I felt as if he had just added injury to hurt. I got off the exam table grabbed my purse and walked out the door. That was 18 years ago. I am now 68 with a A1C of 5.8. After that experience I've never gone to a Endocrinologist again. With Primary Care Physician I have been able to keep my blood sugar in control.

  1. What a horrible experience, , but kuddos to you for walking out. No one should ever treat you that way, especially not someone you are paying to safeguard your health. An A1C of 5.8 is fantastic and I'm glad you found a doctor you're happy with. Thanks for sharing your story. Maybe it will encourage others who are treated poorly by their doctors to do the same. Wishing you the best. - Lori (Team Member)
