Blood Sugar Elevation

I am type 2 diabetic for 35 years. I am on metformin medication. My A1c has been between 6-5 to 7. Recently I get quick blood sugar spikes after eating any food, above 200 if more carbohydrates or sugar. However, Sugar level comes down within target range in 3-4 hours. Is it common or need to be concerned ?

  1. , thanks for your question! I hope others may chime in to share their experiences. Before recently, did your glucose levels used to be lower after eating food? Generally, the guidelines from the ADA suggest glucose levels of 180 or below, 1-2 hours after eating (https://type2diabetes.com/nutrition/when-check-blood-sugar). But this may differ from person to person. It makes sense that after 3-4 hours, your levels would come down since it's been longer since you last ate. It may be worth checking in with your doctor to see if your target range is still applicable if you haven't already done so. Additionally, sometimes management plans can change and what used to work may no longer work for whatever reason (https://type2diabetes.com/clinical/what-progression). It may also be worth it to re-evaluate your management plan with your doctor as well. I hope this may help. Please keep us updated on how things go. Best, Minel (Team Member)
