Low blood sugars

What has been your lowest blood sugar? Recently I was in Spain and mine dropped to 21 during the early morning hours. Granted I have little memory of the experience but I was pretty cut up arms legs and feet from thrashing. Numerous bruises, eye injury, very sore ribs and back. Note Barcelona paramedics had no glucose, they had to raid our fridge and the hotel lobby for sweets. This was my first crash ever and the first experience for my wife.

  1. Hi - thanks so much for asking this question. My hope is that more people will be along shortly to share their experience. In the meantime, I thought I would share this article on glucagon rescue options. A blood sugar of 21 is incredibly low. So glad that you're okay other than some scrapes and bruises. I hope that you have a safe recovery and find a solution for your hypoglycemic episodes soon.

      1. Thank you for sharing. I have had a few lows throughout my journey. I have learned to keep hard candy on me for this situation. B. Keith Crear III (Team Member)

        2. For me It usually is with weakness, sweating, and headache.

      2. I had a blood sugar of 8 a little over year ago. It was 8 in the ER. I had 2 seizures, was intubated, and ended up with aspiration pneumonia.

        1. How scary, . Was that how you got your type 2 diabetes diagnosis? Is your blood sugar under control now? - Lori (Team Member)
