Low blood glucose

I use a CGM and in the early mornings like 3 or 4 AM I get alerts for low blood sugar. Around 50- 53. I used to get up and drink a bit of OJ it now it seems like all I have to do is get up and move around a little and it goes back up to normal. Anybody know what’s up with that. I did lower my meds at night.

  1. Hi . We are not medical experts, so keep that in mind when you get responses here. Any change at all might have affected your morning blood sugar -- the change in medication, any shifts in exercise levels, better quality of sleep. Have you had a chance to talk with your doctor? Here is an article about the "Dawn Phenomena:" https://type2diabetes.com/clinical/morning-high-blood-sugar. It sounds like that might be what you are experiencing. Wishing you the best. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Thank you

      1. , hello! Just curious, after you get the alert, do you check with a finger prick? If you’re using a CGM like Libre2 or the like, you may be getting a false alarm. These can occur if for example you could be from laying on the sensor for a period of time. This is called a compression low. I get these from side sleeping. It’s really essential to pause and do a finger prick before treating a low. I suspect your lows may not be true lows if they rebound with a small amount of movement. Try checking with the finger poke and see if it is truly a low or a false low. If moving around corrects it, keep doing that but do check to help identify what you are really seeing.
