Does sugar effect your vision and if so for how long?

When to see a opthalmologist and how soon?

  1. Hi , thanks for your question. I hope others will chime in to share their experiences with vision and diabetes.
The American Diabetes Association recommends that diabetes eye exams should occur every one to two years if you have no signs of eye complications and stable glucose levels. If you have signs of diabetes eye complications, eye exams should be done at least once every year, or more often if your eye issues are more concerning. Here's some more information if you're interested: https://type2diabetes.com/living/eye-exam. Are you currently experiencing vision issues? If you haven't already, it may be a good idea to speak with your doctor if you're experiencing new vision issues.

      1. Hello , This is a good question. For 25 years I have been seeing the opthalmologist once a year. In the last 5 years I have started to experience sharp pains in my eyes. It's like I'm being stab. I see my opthalmologist twice a year now, but their not finding anything abnormal. Diane (Team Member)
