Depression and Anxiety with Sugar

I know how important it is to eat right and for a year I didn’t eat right at all until my eyes got really blurry and scared me into eating correctly and yes I got my eyes checked and my eye Doctor said that once I started my diet the blurry eyes would go away and thank God it did!!! I go to the eye Doctors twice a year due to my sugar. I don’t exercise at all I just sit i’m very depressed and full of anxiety over this sugar I just feel Paralyzed! I get so scared when I read about someone losing a limb or having any problems with sugar because it scares the heck out of me because i’m so scared it’s going to happen to me and it makes me sad for the other person who is going through it and than I get nothing but anxiety and panic attacks. I really don’t think I will stay in this group to long because of the negativity even tho I know it’s a reality! Thanks for listening….💕Sugar

  1. , thanks for being willing to share your experiences. It sounds really scary to have your vision impacted. I'm glad that your vision seemed to get better with a new diet and that you're keeping up to date with your vision by visiting your eye doctor regularly. I think a lot of other people in the community here can also relate to what you're feeling... diabetes impacts not only physical health, but also mental health.

We totally understand your decision if it's not good for you to stay within this community long-term, but please know we'll always be here if you ever need us!

  2. I have depression and anxiety from having diabetes. I totally get where tracie is coming from, some diabetes groups can scare people off of being on them, I’m the same, I would like to see more positive things in the group instead of all the bad things with diabetes. There is people that come here for support not read all the scary things. Yes I get that your trying to educate to but that’s when you go to diabetes classes. So on a bit of a positive note and how many on here like to craft? And what kind of crafts do you like doing? Also who loves Christmas? It’s my favourite time of year, I have already started my shopping. And love watching the Hallmark Christmas movies. How about you, what’s your favourite thing about preparing for the holidays?

    1. , thanks for your feedback! It's nice to look at the positive sides of things as well. You may also want to post some of these questions as a separate forum thread because sometimes the comments might get a bit lost!

I've been taking up watercolor recently, which has been really fun and relaxing for me. I also like not staring at a screen for a while 😁

I love that you've gotten a head start on Christmas shopping... I always wait until the last minute 😅 But I'm looking forward to getting together with my extended family.
I also started a new forum thread with the question: "What's the kindest thing someone has done for you because of your diabetes?": https://type2diabetes.com/forums/kind to hopefully spark some positivity as well. If you'd like to share something.

      Warmly,

    2. Hi sorry it took me so long getting back with you. I love doing crafts I make jewelry and I crochet. My favorite holiday is Christmas 🎅🏻 too but I haven’t started my shopping yet. I love to decorate my home it’s so much fun!
I get what your saying about getting all of the negativity about having diabetes I can’t stand it it makes me so upset so i’m trying to focus on this time of year because it’s my favorite time but I still get depression and anxiety!!!

  3. I am permanently disabled. My disability is from hitting a concrete wall at work in 1984 and landing on a concrete floor while in technical school when I sat down in a broken chair. I had bone from my left hip take out to replace the 2 crushed disc from the first injury. The 2nd injury in 1993 almost severed my sciatic nerve on the left side. My husband takes care of me. He makes sure that at every meal I have a carb and protein. I don't usually eat sweets unless my sugar is low but I do drink some sweet tea. It took me 8 yrs to figure out what a carb was and what a protein was We read the labels on every thing I eat. I can't exercise, stand for very long, walk short distance or have much strength in my arms or hands.
But I know that if I take my 4mg of glimperid and follow my Dr rules I'll be fine. Listen to your dr and know that not everyone has an amputations, some people I've read about beat diabetes.

    1. Great advice, @Melody Thompson!

Do you miss being able to exercise? If so, you may want to speak to your doctor about something some members of our https://multiplesclerosis.net community use, seated exercise. But because of your previous injuries, definitely speak with your doctor first.

We appreciate you sharing your experience and encouragement! -Warmly, Donna (team member)
