New to Type 2 Diabetes

Hello, so I was just diagnosed officially last week and my blood sugar and A1C were very high. I have changed my diet over the last few days and I've seen a weight loss but my blood sugar has remained high.

11am - 2 hours after a good breakfast, it was 337. I just took it before I was planning on eating lunch and it has climbed to 412 at 1p despite eating nothing and just drinking water.

Any tips or does this happen to anyone else? Going up despite not eating anything?

  1. hi! Thank you for your question. I hope others will chime in to share their experiences. Here's some information we have on controlling blood sugars: https://type2diabetes.com/blood-glucose-control. There could also be other reasons for high blood sugars, such as stress, lack of sleep, a cold, etc. (https://type2diabetes.com/living/5-causes-high-blood-sugar). Have you thought about seeing a certified diabetes care and education specialist? They could be a very valuable asset, especially when you're first starting out: https://type2diabetes.com/living/what-certified-diabetes-care-education-specialist. I hope this may help.

    1. There are so many variables with sugar levels. I've learned to adjust my carb intake to how my body reacts, but it's different for everyone. Keeping a detailed food and sugar reading log helps to see the cause/effect relationship between food and blood sugar. Also, if you just started taking medication, it might not have fully taken effect yet, since it's only been a week.

      1. , thank you for chiming in. I love the idea of keeping track of a food log and that is such a good point, just how many variables may affect sugar levels and that everyone may react differently. Thank you for sharing your insights with us! Best, Minel (Team Member)
