Post-prandial Blood sugar spikes

Hello. I am 73 years old, quite fit and thin having lost over 35 lbs in the past 6 years. I am very active and my blood lipids are great. I am on metformin 1000 x2 daily and jardiance 25 mg. plus statins. Despite all these positives, I am unable to control my post-meal BS spikes. It seems no matter what I eat my BS spikes to over 200 and sometimes over 250 1-2 hours after a meal. My last A1c was 6.4 which I don't consider too bad, but I am very concerned and frustrated that nothing seems to help with the postmeal spikes. Even scrambled eggs with 1/2 piece of WW toast raises my BS to over 220. Any thoughts for me? Thank you, Scott

  1. Hi Scott ( ). I can understand why you are so frustrated. As you know, type 2 diabetes is a progressive disease, so it's possible you might need to increase or supplement your medication. Have you talked with your doctor about your spikes? There are lots of other factors that can impact blood sugar levels as well, such as lack of sleep, stress or other medications. When you get those spikes, does your blood sugar come down quickly or does it take a few hours? If it doesn't come down quickly, a little post-meal exercise, like a walk, might bring it down. I wish I had more answers. Hopefully, others will chime in here with their own experiences. Thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)
