Newly diagnosed....

I was recently diagnosed and just metformin. I've been lowering my carbs and eating better, checking my blood sugar, ect. Right now I feel physically terrible and LOADS of anxiety. Can anyone tell me what the transition was like?

  1. Hi . Many people report feeling ill for the first few weeks on Metformin, but the side effects should resolve over time. If not, definitely reach out to your doctor. It might be the wrong medication for you. While you are waiting to hear from others in the community, I thought you might find this article about Metformin interesting: https://type2diabetes.com/living/about-metformin. The articles answer some of the most common question. I hope this helps and that you get some relief soon. Warmly, Lori (Team Member)

    1. Does your local hospital have a diabetes clinic, if so I would talk to them how you are feeling with the anxiety and how awful your feeling with the Metformin, or talk to your doctor if your doctor knows a lot about being newly diagnosed and the emotions you go through. Your probably feeling very overwhelmed at the moment being newly diagnosed, I know I was very overwhelmed and the then anxiety started. This is the problem with being newly diagnosed, you need to talk to someone who has empathy and understands what it’s like being newly diagnosed.
There’s a lot of information to take in when first diagnosed, and to be honest it’s scary to. It’s a life altering diagnoses isn’t it. I felt the same way. Do you have someone who is understanding in your family that you can talk to? I know how you’re feeling I’ve been there. You’re going to need some support. I hope you can find someone who knows what it’s like having diabetes. I never had the right support, and that’s what causes the anxiety. Don’t go through this alone.
