Metformin & other meds gives me GI problems

I've been diabetic for 10 years. At first Metformin didn't give me problems, but now it's become a nightmare. Dr. tried introducing me to other meds but still the same problems with other meds. She wants me to try a different " catagory" of meds but they can cause yeast infections. I'm trying to work with my diet and cutting back o n Metformin (while still taking glimepiride no bad reactions). Wish I could take more glimepiride but maxed out on that. I ride a Stationary bike 45 minutes a day too, but glucose is still 200 in the morning. It's all over the map in the morning! Have been having GI problems for a month!

  1. How stressful, . I hope your doctor is able to find something that helps without all the side effects. Have you talked with your doctor about maybe adding some natural treatments to the mix? Here is an article about some supplements and herbs that others use to help manage their blood sugar: https://type2diabetes.com/treatment/natural-remedy. Have you ever seen a dietician who specializes in type 2 diabetes? Even if you consulted with one before, it might be wise to try again now so you can get some help with your dietary changes. A good dietician will work with your likes and dislikes, and your current eating habits to help you make changes that are sustainable. Another option (if you can afford it) is a continuous glucose monitor. If you are able to use one for even a month, it can help you identify high-blood sugar triggers. I hope some of this helps and that you have a better experience in the New Year. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)
