Intermittent fasting

Hello everyone 👋

I'm new here. Type 2 for about 10 years. I'm on Jardiance and Tresiba. I've been seeing my fantastic endocrinologist for about 8 years, now. Recently she suggested intermittent fasting alongside a more plant forward diet.

I've noticed with intermittent fasting I've needed less long acting insulin than before. I'm ecstatic about that. We're still adjusting meds bc my blood sugar ends up going low before my fasting window is up.

Anyone else do IF? What are your experiences?

  1. Hi . It does seem that many people with diabetes benefit greatly from intermittent fasting, so I expect you will get a lot of responses here over time. Here is an article from one of our advocates with some tips for getting started: https://type2diabetes.com/living/intermittent-fasting-routine. I thought it might interest you. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. thank you for your reply 🙂

  2. Hi I haven’t personally used it but have spoken to folks who have. I know there are various ways to do it and some are quite extreme. I’m very happy you are doing this under the direction of your endocrinologist who can monitor your blood work beyond your A1C. Please keep us posted and let us know how it is working for you over time! Shelley, community moderator 🇨🇦

    1. I have also heard people going to extremes, which I do not do. I do mostly 16:8 and sometimes 18:6. My fasting window is generally from 7:30pm to 11:30am, so it's really just overnight and skipping breakfast. I don't do IF on the weekends, too difficult to fit into my weekend lifestyle.

  3. That sounds reasonable . And on busy days probably not hard to do. Please keep us posted as to how it’s working in the longer term. There are healthy many ways to deal with our diabetes and very individual. Thank you for sharing your experience and the need to work with your diabetic team so adjustments to your meds can be made safely. Please keep us posted. Shelley, community moderator 🇨🇦

    1. I just started IF and was going to post the question if anyone is doing it and if it's working. Today was day 4 and I'm getting great results. I've been type 2 diabetic for 28 years and recently diagnosed with Heart Failure which makes me feel very tired and I am not as active as normal which has elevated my A1C up to 9+.

      1. , So glad to hear that you have been seeing great results! I hope it continues to get better from here. Thanks for sharing, keep us updated!
