Hives with Metformin and also Jardiance

I am getting severe body hives with both metformin and jardiance. (The dr prescribed cetirizine to help symptoms - and this works.)

So:

1) Is there any oral alternative (that someone with this exact problem dealt with) that I should try?

2) If I go to the once a week injection, will this same issue fester?

3) Should I just take the metformin with the cetirizine and be done with it?

  1. Hi . That must have been scary, but I am glad cetirizine helps. Is this your primary care doctor who is prescribing your diabetes medications? If so, it might be time to see an endocrinologist. Endocrinologists are experts in hormones and have more knowledge about why certain people react differently to the various diabetes medications. You should get prescriptions more tailored to your specific needs. Here is an article about endocrinologists that you might find helpful: https://type2diabetes.com/living/endocrinologist. You could keep taking the metformin and cetirizine, but, personally, I would worry about future reactions. If cetirizine helps, that means you are allergic to something in both medications. Your reacton might not ever get worse, but there is no way to know for certain. I hope others chime in here who have experience with allergic reactions to diabetes medications. 1. Hello , So sorry you are going through this. I had a psoriasis flare after starting Jardiance, but the doctors aren't sure if that is what caused it. I got 3 infections, so they just took me off it completely.

I would keep a close eye on the medications that you are taking. We all react so differently to medications and don't know what medication is fighting the other. My doctors think my medications are fighting each other. Right now, I am in a trial-and-error stage at the moment.

You asked some great questions and I'm sure someone will come along with answers. Let us know how you are doing.
