Contour Next EZ glucose monitor

I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes 2 years ago, after my heart attack. I have not had any true medical instruction or what to watch for, how to manage (except, of course, my Metformin meds), no formal information. I have the Contour Next EZ monitor and my numbers are typically between 4.8 and as high as 9 (with reason.) I'm not even sure what numbers I should be trying to stay within. I noticed that other monitors have a different measurement? Mine will say 5.2 mmol over MM and I don't understand this. Can anyone offer information?

  1. , welcome to the community! It's unfortunate how common it is for folks in the community to also not receive much medical instruction after a type 2 diabetes diagnosis. It's really overwhelming to try to process a new diagnosis, adding not enough formal information makes it really confusing. If you haven't already, it's a good idea to speak with your doctor to see what numbers you should try to stay in. This target range may vary from person to person depending on their health histories, etc. Are you located outside of the US by chance? In the US, we measure blood glucose levels by mg/dL, but many other countries measure it by mmol/L. Here is a conversion chart if you are interested: https://www.joslin.org/patient-care/diabetes-education/diabetes-learning-center/conversion-table-blood-glucose-monitoring. If you have access to someone like a certified diabetes educator, they can be really helpful to provide more information about diabetes care: https://type2diabetes.com/living/certified-diabetes-care-education-specialist.

    I hope this may help!
