Blood sugar going up when I haven’t eaten

What causes my blood sugar to rise in the morning when I haven’t eaten since the night before. This morning I go up and took my blood sugar. It was 179. I then did 30 minutes of cardio. I sat down to rest and had a bottle of water. Took my blood sugar again and it was 230. Why did it go up?

  1. Hi . Have you talked with your doctor about your morning blood sugar spikes? It is possible you are experiencing the dawn phenomenon. Here is an article that explains it better than I can: https://type2diabetes.com/clinical/morning-high-blood-sugar. I hope this helps and that you are able to bring it under control. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Hello , this is an excellent question. I remember years ago someone said it could be hormones that caused this. Have a talk with your doctor and see what is going on. Let us know what you find out. Diane (Team Member)
