Fatigue or Weakened Immune System: My Bad Decision

Am I the only one who keeps waking up at night due to restless legs, thirst, and constant visits to the bathroom? I don't think I am alone in this one. We all go through similar needs patterns, which keep us on our toes throughout the day and even at night. It's always one thing after another.

Experiencing extreme thirst

Some days I feel thirsty no matter what, and then I have to go to the bathroom after every half hour or so. While working, this gets difficult to manage, focusing on tasks becomes a challenge, and running to either bathroom or cafeteria can make your head spin.

Cutting back on water intake

Having those restless nights, tired mornings, and hectic workdays can really get tough. At one point, I did cut down on my water intake a lot. I was trying to end those seemingly never-ending bathroom trips. Well, guess what I ended up getting a urinary tract infection that was very painful, which caused me to make more visits to the bathroom.

I truly regretted my decision to cut out my water intake. It's the kind of mistake that you never want to make. Compromising your body health just to stay in your seat is not good. You will regret it later on when you will have to get medical help, and it's going to take days to get rid of those extra medications.

Struggling with sleeping

I struggled with my sleep cycle for so long that I forgot when I last had a sound sleep. It impacted my overall functioning. I used to be down all the time, least interested in any post-work activities or even during work hours. I wanted to lie down all the time. I was so tired of myself; it felt like I was literally dragging my body around.

Getting helpful support from a co-worker

Years ago, a co-worker asked to speak to me. He also had type 2 diabetes. No one ever knew this because he was fresh, smiling, and active every day at work. Compared to me, I was lingering like I had worked non-stop for weeks.

My co-worker asked me to start taking short walks on my breaks, but more importantly, he told me to keep a fragrant lavender mist by my bedside to help me sleep better. It sounded funny at the time, but I did it, and it helped me sleep. Thanks to my colleague, I wake up fresh most mornings!

Juggling many aspects of managing type 2 diabetes

As type 2 diabetes fighters, we have to care for our bodies like a flower. Extra love, warmth, care, and attention to stay in shape.

If we don't eat properly, our blood sugar fluctuates. If we don't drink enough water, our kidneys are compromised. If we don't stay active, our body gives us extra aches telling us that we need to move. Our bodies are genuinely our holy temple which needs nourishment and care 24/7.

Our bodies can be more sensitive

I know it isn't always easy to check our food, water, medications, blood sugar meter (if you have to use one), and sleep/wake routine, but it is way better than ending up in hospital. Type 2 diabetes makes our body extra sensitive, inviting infections, viruses, and bacteria to come and thrive. It takes effort, but finding a balance to manage all aspects of health will help you manage type 2 diabetes.
