what is more important to control, spike or stay-in-range

Friends:

I have been a T2D for a very long time and I am on Metformin 750 twice a day. Since I am on Libre Freestyle 3 CGM (best thing that I did) I keep close tab on what I eat.

Doubt is what is more important ?

Is spike more important aka I am at 100 pre meal and it spikes to 230 in one hour and then quickly comes down after 3 hours(total including 1 hour)

or

Sugar goes high slowly and stays high for long time.

  1. Hi there, thanks for taking the time to post your question. We appreciate it! Often times, type 2 diabetes control is measured by Hemoglobin A1C. Have you had your Hemoglobin A1C checked recently? I'm linking an article that discusses what a Hemoglobin A1C test is. https://type2diabetes.com/news/new-guidelines-hba1c-levels Let us know if you find this helpful. 1. Personally, I think a spike and quick return to normal range would be ideal. The less time you spend hovering out of range, the better it will be for your overall A1C and also will help reduce T2D complications such as neuropathy, kidney issues, heart issues, etc. When in doubt, check with your managing physician!
