What are your CGM #'s when on Trulicity and Metformin

When got diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes less then a year ago, I started using a CGM. Great technology, I can see my BG #'s on my smartwatch. It allows me to learn what diet and exercise does to my BG in almost real time. It has taken about 5 months but my standard deviation went from the high 30's to approx 20. In other words I have less extreme swings in my BG numbers. I now stay with in 110 to 180, 98% of the time. Working with my Physicians Assistant (PA-C) weekly, he has slowly been adjusting my medications (Trulicity and Metformin) to improve and stabilize my BG numbers. Currently, my BG #'s have stabilized right around 120 to 130. I do have "Dawn Syndrome" so my numbers in the early (3AMish) rise in the morning for a few hours while sleeping.

For those who are using a CGM, is it normal to stabilize between 120 - 130? I have found conflicting info.

  1. Hi , I use a FreeStyle Libre 2. I have been using it for about 60 days. I also find myself "refining" or "narrowing" my daily graph, I find myself within the 110-120 range. My average is sitting at 113.

I am still at the place where I get stressed when I get a high reading, but I am working hard to understand what is going on - I'm feeling stressed, I didn't sleep well last night, I'm not feeling well or have a migraine - I'll get used to it, I guess, lol. When I started using it, I seemed to be experiencing Dawn Syndrome, but recently, it seems to have switched to getting my highest readings between 6AM and noon.

As far as my inexpert experience, your numbers seem good and the American Diabetes Association says for a Type 2 Diabetic 80-130 premeal is a good range.

Hope you have a lovely day!

    1. I think what is really important that you have identified is that you have seen less swings in your numbers! That is great. Stabilizing within that range could be quite normal depending on a few factors. Example, where your numbers were when diagnosed, how long you have been living with diabetes, if the meds are doing what they should, if you are able manage your diet and exercise. If your PA is happy with the direction you are heading in and you feel good about it, then it’s all good. Your PA can help set your goal A1C with you. I’ve been diabetic for almost 17 yrs. My endo wants my A1C below 7. I tend to be between 6.8 and 7. I’d love to be lower but it may not be easily achieved. I’m using the Libre2 and love it. It has changed the face of my diabetes. Work towards YOUR goal. You can make it to your goal too. Shelley, community moderator 🇨🇦
