waist measurement

My doctor told me to measure around my waist, it needs to be 34 inches. Said this was a good way to keep my diabetes under control

  1. Thanks for sharing. Did your doctor give you some guidance on how to acheive that or are you already there? I'd say for others in our community that waist measurement goals will vary based on height and body type, age, etc. Wishing you the best, Kelly, Type2diabetes.com Community Moderator

    1. your right depends on height and body type, age. Some doctors don’t know much about diabetes, it really upsets me. I wish they would have to take the diabetes classes, to have more knowledge, or learn way more about diabetes when they are in Universatiy since it’s such a common disease and so many people have it. I find they don’t have much knowledge on the other side of diabetes the emotional side when you’re first diagnosed. There needs to be way more support, for people living with this disease. And support for people trying to quit smoking. More diabetes groups you can go to for the ones who are so scared , is so important, the stress, ect. I was a mess when I found out, there so many types of people out there, some are overwhelmed others are just fine, different personalities and how to cope. Not everyone is the same. I find even in the classes there were so many that didn’t know how to use there medications mostly type 1 I was overwhelmed just listening to this one guy who took up the alot of time and others didn’t get to ask there questions he was quit stressed. The class wasn’t managed well. This poor lady had all her syringes out and other things waiting to talk about what she was having issues with and I don’t think she even got 2 words in. It actually made me anxious, no real follow up for a one on one, I was brand new to this disease and didn’t know what to ask, so it was not very good for me. Als I heard was about complications from others and scared the crap out of me and only went to 2 classes out of three I was scared to hear anymore. Your doctor is the first person you deal with from diagnosis to any other problems they just don’t give enough time for everything from being terrified like I was, my doctor was not very good at support, he just scared me. Told me all the awful things and said your obese and some other things I went home and cried.

  2. No, I'm definitely not there. He said exercise and diet. Hard to walk for exercise because I have spinal stenosis. All I do is ride my stationary bike. Working on it

    1. I can relate I have disc issues and a sore toe from an old injury I still walk but not as I use to just shorter walks, I use to walk 2 miles but my poor foot and back just can’t walk that far anymore, it stil hurts my toe even when I walk short distances. Stationary bike is good. I saw some where online couch exercises or chair exercises which looked interesting.

    2. See this is what I’m talking about, doctors don’t take into considerations if you have other issues, I’ve been there, they cause so much stress. Not all doctors but in my experience it’s been fat bashing and ignorant comments bad bedside manner. Brought me to tears, and I’m not an emotional person usually but this disease is darn hard to live with and most doctors just blame and criticize and other people in general, no wonder people with diabetes get depressed. It’s hard enough dealing with the disease and then to have ignorant comments. Canelady 44 you do what you can do. I’m proud of you that your using a stationary bike.
