Synjardy XR vs. Semiglutide

I'm a 70 year old male with Type 2 diabetes. I've been taking Synjardy XR for about 4 years. I'm not obese but could probably eat a little better. I enjoy a bit of sweets in moderation and exercise regularly.

My last couple of A1C tests have been 6.8. At my appointment my physician asked if I wanted to switch to Ozempic and stop Synjardy XR.

Since what I have been doing is working and I have no side effects I decided not to switch. I've read some of the literature on semiglutides and just didn't want to do something that has side effects when I'm fine with a daily pill.

However, I still want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. Could Ozempic or other similar drugs push my A1c below 6? Are there health benefits I'm not thinking about?

  1. Hi . We are not medical experts, so we really can't say whether switching to Ozempic would be more beneficial, but bringing your A1C down can help prevent complications down the line. Did your doctor offer to increase your dose of Synjardy XR or do you think you can make some dietary changes that might bring it down? Often, simple changes can make a big difference. Have you ever consulted with a dietician who specializes in diabetes? The visits are usually covered by insurance if you have a referral from a doctor and they can be extremely helpful. You might find you can easily bring your A1C below 6 with just a few changes. Wishing you the best. - Lori (Team Member)
