Synjardy pros and cons

Hi Everyone. I'm new here and I hope I can get everyone's advice.
I am a type 2 and have been taking Metformin XR (4 500mg tabs per day) and Glimepiride, 4mg. My new doc wants me to end the Glimiperide and switch to Synjardy 2x per day. Now I read a lot, maybe too much but I am very concerned about the potential side effects of Synjardy. So I am asking this group for your experiences on Synjardy. Should I be concerned? I am 66 years old. My current A1C is 6.8. Thanks in advance

  1. Welcome to the community, ! I'm glad you found us. I have not been able to find anything in our archives specifically about Synjardy (empagliflozin/metformin), but I hope others will see your post and chime in. What has your doctor describe as the benefits of switching? Are there other treatments you would prefer to try? If you are uncomfortable with Synjardy, they are plenty of other options. Wishing you the best. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Hi Lori. Thank you for your response. My doctor feels this is the best med for me, saying the heart benefits outweigh any potential side effects. Not sure I agree with that sentiment. I am hoping to hear from some members of this forum who have experience with Synjardy. It is quite new so not sure how many folks are takimg it. I'll wait to see if anyone replies.
This is a womderful forum, full of great information. I plan to be hear a great deal.
