Sugar intake for nutrition

Does that make it okay to consume the sugars if they really are going to be used for more energy?

  1. It can really vary by person! We recommend checking in with a doctor/dietitian/nutritionist to figure out the best plan for each individual. Best, Margot, Type2Diabetes.com Team

    1. Everybody's body reacts differently to foods. The best thing you can do is check your blood sugar one to two hours after eating the food in question. Portion size is key! Your blood sugar should be between 140 - 180. (closer to 140 is better).

Food pairing can also help. If you eat a food that contains sugar, balance it out by adding protein to it. Meat, eggs, beans, protein powder are some examples.

Another strategy you can use is walking after eating. That will help lower your readings and decrease the effect of any sugars in your meal. Always check with your provider or nutritionist for more details.

      1. What drives ones sugar up. Sometimes is different to another that's for sure.
