Shakes

Just got officially diagnosed with T2D...
I do not have a machine/strips yet. I take metformin 2x day at mealtime.
I get shakes but not sure is my sugar high or low!?? Today I was just 3 hours from my first meal! It was rough. I ate a sandwich. What's the best route if the shakes happen? Eat a full meal, which I'm full from the sandwich, it was just chicken lunchmeat and whole wheat bread,
Any advice?

  1. Thank you for sharing and reaching out. It's definitely hard to navigate without knowing what your blood sugar is, especially while taking medication. I'd encourage you to speak with your doctor, if you haven't already. Typically it's recommended that if you have a low blood sugar, you consume 15g of carbohydrate, then re-check, some examples are listed in this article: https://type2diabetes.com/nutrition/understanding-hypoglycemia-risks-prevention-treatment. You may be ok eating just a 1/2 sandwich, as most whole wheat breads have about 15g of carb per slice. Hope that's helpful. Wishing you some relief (& a monitor) soon.
