T2D reversal with weight loss and low carb diet

hi Can someone help about a person who is having 7.94 mIU/L post meal insulin level can reverse type 2 diabetes? I had normal blood glucose below 140mg/dl after meals and below 100mg/dl fasting glucose from last one month. I had even experimented twice by eating 50 gms of wheat flour bread along with 1/4 piece of apple and it was normal blood glucose after 2 hrs. of eating (below 140 mg/dl). I was 106kg two years back (2018 and 19) lost weight to 82 kg (2020) but sadly i was diganosed T2D at 82 (obese) last month (july 2021) now I am 73 (24.1 BMI) lost 9kgs in one month. It will be nice if someone can give me hope to reverse T2D and give the answer of my question above. thanks

  1. – hi, thank you for your question. It can be overwhelming to have a new diagnosis, but I think it's great that you're experimenting to see what does work and does not work for you. I think you'll find that everyone is a bit different. Passing you along some information for those newly diagnosed, which you may find helpful: https://type2diabetes.com/living/dear-newly-diagnosed-friend.

Unfortunately, there is no way to "reverse" type 2 diabetes. Some people do use this term when they mean well-controlled or managed diabetes. However, if people stop following their management plan that "reversed" their diabetes, their A1cs would begin to rise again. Here's more information on the difference: https://type2diabetes.com/living/no-cure-reverse. Like the article says, remission is possible with type 2 diabetes. As far as how to achieve it, you may find some of these articles helpful: https://type2diabetes.com/blood-glucose-control. If you are able to see a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, they are also a very valuable resource.

    1. sounds like your on the right track. It takes 3-4 months for your hba1c to show the results but keep at a Whole Foods diet (no bread, no pasta, no grains, no processed boxed foods, or beverages with sugar). Eat lots of fatty meats, eggs and butter, manage stress, get plenty of sleep and you’ll be non-diabetic within 6 months. However, you’ll need to stay with this lifestyle to avoid becoming diabetic again.

      1. You can achieve remission of diabetes with change of diet and adding exercise. Quality sleep and stress management are other areas to manage to assist with a better blood sugar. But whatever plan you use to achieve the improvements, it needs to become a way of life. If it is a temporary routine, the problems will return as pointed out. So choose a plan that you can stick with for a lifetime and longterm success can be yours. Trinette (Community moderator)
