Novolog costs

Just refilled Novolog prescription-pen injection. From listening to debate on INFLATION Reduction act, I assumed if you were on medicare, all insulin was $35.00 for 30 day supply. I know it was rejected for private insurance plans, but reports kept saying Medicare insulin costs would remain at $35 as in the past. The costs for this novolog was $177.54 previously and refill just cost me $177.54. This is mail order and walk/in both. My Tresiba has always been $35. One bolus and one basal, different costs, why? Can you help me understand?

  1. , this is a great question. Hopefully, these resources may help clarify: https://diabetes.org/newsroom/press-releases/2022/house-passes-inflation-reduction-act & https://diabetes.org/sites/default/files/2022-08/What-People-with-Diabetes-Need-to-Know-about-the-Inflation-Reduction-Act.pdf. It seems as though this won't go into effect until 2023, which is why the costs may still be high. It seems as though there might be reimbursement. The ADA might have more information if you ask them. Please keep us updated if you learn more. Best, Minel (Team Member)
