No meds vs meds and insulin

I know of a few people who are off all meds and insulin and they say have been cured.
That's not the case for me. I have proven many times that I need both insulin and meds. I am on Jardiance and Janumet plus fast acting and long acting insulin. If I am late on a dose of either I spike high. But sometimes especially if I am late on meals I bottom out. I can never seem to get it right. What's scary is I haven't felt many of my lows. And I never feel highs.

  1. Hi . Those people who are off meds are not necessarily cured. They are likely in the earliest stages of Type 2 diabetes when losing weight can improve insulin resistance and cutting back on carbs reduces blood glucose to levels their bodies can handle. Hopefully, they will experience very slow progression and always remain off meds, but they will also always have to be careful about their diets. You have likely progressed further and faster. That's not your fault. Type 2 diabetes is a progressive disease and every journey is different. This is just the way diabetes is behaving in your body. In another thread, you mentioned that you recently started using a continuous glucose monitor and that it has helped bring down your A1C. That is awesome. The more you learn about your body's reactions to foods, sleep levels and exercise, the better you will be able to manage your blood sugar. But it sounds like you have reached a point where you simply need insulin, where dietary changes and exercise are not enough. It is scary when you don't experience the warning signs of high and low blood sugar. Maybe, at some point, you should talk with your doctor about whether an insulin pump would be appropriate for you. I hope others who have had similar journeys with their diabetes chime in here. Wishing you the very best. - Lori (Team Member)
