Night Hypos Issues

Hi, I have been T2 for more than 15 years. I have controlled it with diet and tablets. Late last year it went haywire again and I started on slow release insulin. All is good except for some night hypos. I have a sensor in my upper arm connected to my phone which screams an alarm if glucose drops below 4 (72). Short term I drink some orange juice and half a muesli bar. This works for a while, but often a couple of hours later it goes off again. Question: do you know of something I can eat that releases glucose slowly over a few hours? I don't want to eat a meal at 3AM. Plenty of products to get your levels up, but keeping them up is the issue. I can reduce my insulin dose which I inject in the morning, but then my day levels are too high. Thankss.

  1. Hi , thanks for your question. I hope others will be able to chime in to share their experiences. Have you had a chance to speak to your doctor about this or a certified diabetes educator yet? They might be able to help and troubleshoot as well if you haven't already asked. Please keep us updated on how things go if you feel comfortable doing so. Best, Minel (Team member)

    1. Start high never seem to get it down...very frustrating

      1. I spoke to my doctor and endocrinologist. They are very happy that my levels are 98%+ in the green. Job done. Problem is that apart from diabetes, I am an insomniac and these events ruin my slee0. I'd rather not die from hypos so the tech is great, but for days afterwards I am tired. They don't seem to get that. Medicine is still lacking a holistic approach. I will live a relatively long life and I am a fortunate person, but the medical profession just concentrate on HbA1c (6.1) and daily glucose levels. I would still like to sleep and not wake up constantly.

        1. I buy the liquid bottles at Walmart has different flavors and brings it up faster than anything I’ve tried. U can put in drawer beside bed if have one cause doesn’t need cold storage and most of time only take about two drinks from it and it works but u r supposed to drink whole bottle each time but have
not had to hope this helps and I loved my CGM wish could still afford it; it was keeping my A1C down to 6-7.
