Lipitor

I wanted to see if anyone else with type 2 here takes lipitor and how it is for them. I got prescribed them along with metformin and ozempic and it's the only one with side effects that worry me a little. Just want to know how others are with lipitor.

  1. Hi there, thanks for posting this question here. Unfortunately, I was unable to find any articles in our library discussing adding lipitor to your existing medications. Did you have a chance to discuss your concerns with your doctor? Perhaps they would be able to clarify their reasoning and review with you the potential side effects? Best of luck! -Lauren (team member)

    1. Many doctors will prescribe a statin to diabetics to help protect their hearts. I've taken Lipitor for 4 years without a problem, I take it because not only am I a T2, I also had an MI

      1. He . One side effect of Lipitor (and other statins) is a possible increase in blood sugar, but many doctors prescribe it to people with type 2 diabetes because they feel the reduction in cholesterol is worth the risk. There is a new alternative you can ask your doctor about if you are concerned. It's bempedoic acid. Here is an article about it from May clinic that might interest you: https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/bempedoic-acid-oral-route/description/drg-20484223. I hope that helps. Warm wishes. - Lori (Team Member)
