Is this normal for fasting levels to change?

So yesterday the 30th I checked my fasting level after 8 hours and it was 102mg/dL and this morning thr 31st I checked it was 97mg/dL
Could it be that on the 29th before I started to fast I had some fireball whisky 2 hours before I started fasting?
Is it normal for fasting levels to change that quick?
I dunno if this all means I'm pre-diabetic or not but I am planning to see a doctor if the levels go back into the 100s and stay..

  1. Hi . Normal fasting blood sugar levels are between 70 mg/dL and 100 mg/dL, so you are still within that range for the first test. You are ever so slightly over for the second, but morning blood sugar levels can be high for lots of reasons. Keep in mind that we are not medical experts. So you really should contact your doctor if you are concerned. Do you have reason to believe you might be prediabetic? Have you been diagnosed before? If your doctor suspects you are prediabetic, your doctor will likely order and A1C test to get a look at your blood gluclose levels over several months. That is more informative than daily results since so many factors can impact blood sugar levels on any given day. I hope you are able to see your doctor soon and that you are negative for prediabetes. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. could the fact when I had 102 I didn't wash my hands first time in the morning before I checked was the reason? The 97 was first thing as I woke up but washed my hands before. Today I checked twice back to back first without washing it was 106 then washed hands 97

    2. Hi . Any kind of activity can impact your blood sugar, so that is a possibility. The best reassurance will come from an A1C test. It's a simple blood test that is often part of yearly physicals, so I am guessing your doctor will be willing to order it. - Lori (Team Member)
