I'm I cured?

In 2021 my A1c was 5.4... Last June (2024) after being severely ill for a year... my man rushed me to the ER to find my Blood Sugar was 400 and my A1c was 12.5!
I chose Glipizide and never ate over 9-15 carbs a day. I went on the Carnivore/Keto/Atkins diet. I started swimming an hour and a half a day and then cut my calories to 800-1200 a day.
I've lost 60 pounds since June.
Now I'm getting hypOglycemia!
I cut my dose from 5mg in the morning and 5mg at night to 2.5 in the morning an 1.25 at night. Just now my BS says I'm 85 and I'm suppose to take my nightly dose? A little afraid to do that before I go to bed.

Funny... my A1c test at home is 5.6 and my blood testing kit monitor has me at 104 (5.2) but the one at the doctors office says 6.1??? Hmmmm.
My blood sugar hasn't gone over 130 in... months, even after meals. 130 is actually rare and high for me these days.

I'm thinking I'm curing myself. My 'primary caregiver' only can see me once every 6 months... so I've been on my own. Any thoughts... if anyone read this?

  1. Most likely remission by doing a damn good job at maintaining your glucose. Keep up the amazing work. - B. Keith Crear III (Team Member)

    1. Hi . It might be wise to make an appointment now for a re-evaluation given that you are eating differently and you have dropped 60 pounds. You might need to lower the dose of your medication or come off it altogether. Congratulations on all the weight loss and on bringing your A1C down. That's wonderful! You can never really be cured of type 2 diabetes, but you can achieve remission and it sounds like you have done that. Great job! I hope this helps and that your doctor is willing to see you. Keep us posted if you don't mind. Best wishes for the New Year! - Lori (Team Member)

      1. Oh, I know I can never eat sugar again, even if I get to go off meds 😀 Thank you
