I do a lot of cooking, and not usually from diabetes cookbooks. How can I calculate the carbs in something like a casserole? I'd rather not spend 30 minutes measuring and weighing foods or analyzing each ingredient

HELP!

  1. Hi . Overtime, you will become very good at estimating carbs in foods, even with foods you have never eaten before. The easiest way would be to search online for a recipe similar to yours that includes a carb count. For instance, if you are making a tuna noodle casserole, search for "tuna noodle casserole recipe carb count." Here are the results I came up with: https://www.google.com/search?q=tuna+noodle+casserole+carb+count&rlz=1C1CHBD_enUS894US894&ei=2WuLZJyRL4Wt5NoPitqIyAo&oq=tuna+noodle+casserole+car&gs_lp=Egxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAiGXR1bmEgbm9vZGxlIGNhc3Nlcm9sZSBjYXIqAggBMgUQABiABDIGEAAYFhgeMgYQABgWGB4yBhAAGBYYHjIGEAAYFhgeMggQABgWGB4YDzIGEAAYFhgeMgYQABgWGB4yBhAAGBYYHjIGEAAYFhgeSKkbULwEWOsHcAB4ApABAJgBzgGgAa0FqgEFMC4zLjG4AQHIAQD4AQHCAgQQABhHwgIHEAAYigUYQ8ICBRAuGIAE4gMEGAAgQYgGAZAGCA&sclient=gws-wiz-serp. Scroll through the results until you find a recipe similar to your and tweak your recipe to match. The more specific terms you add, the more you will narrow down you search. For instance, if you add mustard your casserole, add that to the search terms. Very few people actually limit themselves to a serving, so it's best to overestimate, assuming you will eat 1.5 or 2 servings. If this is a recipe you make often, you might want to write down the carb count so you don't have to do it again. I hope this helps and that others chime in with some ideas.
