high blood sugar after running

i tested a1c at 243 then ran 1/4 mile the test after was 261. shouldn't this be lower?

  1. I think you mean blood glucose level? I’ve never heard of an A1C in the hundreds. For blood glucose, your sugar level, I have heard that hard exercise can temporarily increase the sugar level in a temporary way no only while you exercise. You might try walking instead of running and see how that affects your sugar. I generally find a walk for 30 mins to an hour can lower it 50 - 100 pts. Hope that helps!

    1. Thank you for reaching out. As another community member mentioned below, intense exercise can increase glucose temporarily. In addition to speaking with your doctor, this is a great article on diabetes management and exercise and it explains the possible impact of intense exercise: https://type2diabetes.com/living/exercise-blood-glucose. Hope that's helpful. Appreciate you being part of our community. Best, Kelly, Type2diabetes.com Community Moderator
