Glucose spike now 50-60% target when have been over 70% for 2 years

I’m an 87 year old male Canadian with type 2 diabetes. I take jardiance and januvia I have been using the libre sensor for 2 years. I was taking 6 units of Tresiba . My target of 4-10 has been achieved for almost all the 2 years. At over 70% with no lows below 4.
Suddenly I am only at 50-60% on target and I have titrated up to 16 units of insulin with no change I did get up to 17 units and suddenly for the first time I had 2 lows in one night so I titrated back to 14. Am now at 16. How dangerous is it to be at 60%? Should I keep increasing insulin until I get it up over 70% ?
I had no apparent changes in life style diet that might account for the reduction. Any help would be greatly appreciated Jerry

  1. Hi . So many things can impact your blood glucose levels beyond lifestyle and diet changes. A target percent of 60 is good for some people and not good for others. What is more important is the fact that something has changed and that your medications might need adjusting. We can't comment specifically on your numbers because we are not medical experts, but any time a pattern that has been steady for so long suddenly becomes unstable, it's a good idea to call your doctor as soon as possible. Does your doctor's office have a 24-hour line you can call or a way to reach someone over the weekend? If you can't reach anyone and you become worried for your safety, don't be afraid to stop by the ER. They can at least stabilize your blood sugar and ensure that you will be okay until you see your doctor. I wish I had better answers for you. Please keep us posted, if you don't mind. I will be thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)
