Food prep with type 2 diabetes

I live on a fixed income and eating healthy is a real challenge for me. I try to freeze meals when I can. I'm looking for ideas for diabetic-friendly meals that freeze well.

  1. Thanks for sharing and reaching out. You are not alone here! Here are some articles on budget-friendly shopping, meal prep and freezing that may be helpful to you: https://type2diabetes.com/nutrition/budget-friendly-healthy-eating

Check out our recipes page and search by type of recipe or ingredient. Such as "soup" or "Lunch", etc. Best, Kelly, Type2diabetes.com Community Moderator

    1. If you have type 2 diabetes, meal prepping can help you manage your blood sugar levels and stick to a healthy diet. Here are some tips to get started:
      1. Choose healthy foods: focus on lean protein, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats.
      2. Plan ahead: make sure to have all the ingredients you need on hand so that you can easily make healthy meals throughout the week.
      3. Be portion-conscious: portion out your food in advance so that you're not overeating or consuming too many sugary or high-fat foods.
      4. Keep it simple: start with basic recipes and then build up from there as you get more comfortable with meal prepping.
      5. Make it fun: find ways to enjoy the process of meal prepping, such as listening to music or watching TV while you cook.

      1. My husband takes care of that. He knows a lot about nutrition.

        1. question for you: do you think creating low sugar / low carb donuts at home would work? I am just curious because my wife makes for me and I find it a great to manage cravings...

          good luck...

          2. I've made some low carb doughnuts and I tend to like those better than the original at times. Personally, some doughnuts taste a little too sweet so I like being able to sub sweeteners for ones that work better for me.
