It's #NationalFastFoodDay today, and we're wondering how you handle cravings for foods that may not help with your type 2 diabetes management. What have you found to work, or not work?
This may sound bad but I give in to them BUT with CONTROL. If I don't give in, then it's like the junk food I'm craving just keeps calling my name! Ignoring works for a while. If I give in and have a little the craving goes away. That way I do very little damage to my blood sugars than if I eat a whole lot more because I waited too long. I think I'm lucky to be able to do this. I know now from reading so many people's posts that many cannot.

Hello TheLongPointGirl,
I think you have a great plan in place! Being to restrictive with diet can lead to over indulging at a latter time which often leads to regret. Thanks as always for sharing your tips/point of view 😀 Meryl

I eliminated my type 2 years ago by eliminating fast food. Drive by the drive thru. Living on vegetables, my A1C stays well below 6.

I'll be honest. I give in to things at times. I'll do so good but then something will trigger. My main weakness is if I go to someplace that will have banana pudding or pecan pie I'm going to have some, same with coconut macaroons. Those are my weak spots. I'll have a fun bar once in a while or a half cup of ice cream once in a while. For most part though I'm pretty good about not grabbing everything in sight. I have a tin box with fun bars and other candy on the kitchen table and not even pay attention to them. I also have a big tin with those butter cookies in them and one of those large tins with chocolate candies in them. All are on the kitchen table and I totally ignore them all the time except for occasionally having one once in a while. I just don't have those cravings. Now, when I used to drink? That was a different story. I'd have some wine or gin and Collins or beer. When I got done I'd be in the kitchen hitting the fridge for milk and then digging around for something sweet to eat. Wife kept asking if I was okay because it seemed strange to her that after drinking I needed something sweet and milk to drink with whatever I found sweet to eat. But now I don't even get phased by them being out in the open like that to me. I've got to wondering after having been dx with type 2 was that a signal that I had diabetes at the time and just didn't realize or was it just some kind of a crazy craving?
