Effects of Pre Diabetes

Since I was informed of being pre-diabetic, I have, via diet, been able to lower my blood sugar and HbA1C so that I am no longer in the range to be called pre diabetic. But, I have concerns…How often should I be checked? Can I developed side effects of Type 2, e.g. retinopathy, by being pre-diabetic? What should I be looking for that may suggest I am in trouble?
I am consistent with my diet and have even lost a little weight and I know exercise would help, too. I find this to be my biggest challenge.

        1. Hi . What has your doctor recommended? I am no medical expert, but, perosnally, I would at least insist that an A1C test be part of your regular yearly or twice-yearly bloodwork. If you are getting blood drawn anyway, you might as well. It will give you peace of mind and help you catch any upward shifts early enough to prevent complications. You should not be at risk for complications if you are no longer prediabetic, but that can change quickly. Congratulations on bringing your A1C so far down. That is awesome. - Lori (Team Member)
