Diet and meal plan for diabettes

Hi

Can you please suggest a diet and meal plan for a 55 year old woman, five feet two, 143 pounds, with mild type 2 diabetes?

There are many diets on the net, but not with portions size.

I'm looking for a diet where I can lose weight SLOWLY, and follow long-term.

Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks.

  1. – first off, love the username as a fellow cat lover myself! Secondly, this is a great question, but one that may vary from person to person. Would you have access to consult with a registered dietician or nutritionist? They would be able to help with the most individualized program. We have many articles about diet and nutrition that you may find helpful in the meantime. I definitely agree that it's a good idea to find something you can follow long-term. There may be some trial and error as you try to find something that works best for you and your lifestyle. Below are some articles to get you started. Best, Minel (Team Member)

    1. I can't exactly suggest a diet (diet will not be the same for every person). A good diet consists of enough vitamins, nutrients, fruits and vegetables. To get a personalized diet plan, you have to consult an medical expert who can guide you in suggesting a perfect diet plan for diabetes

      1. Those are definitely important things to remember when trying to eat healthily. As you have said, speaking with your doctor, a dietician, or certified diabetes educator is a great way to go about figuring out your diet. -Ashlen, Type2diabetes.com community moderator

    2. The best diet I have ever followed is a therapeutic diet enriched with herbs and spices I found on iahas.com and the best part is, it helps you with your treatment and also assists you to lose weight. You can check them out or if you know of any other websites that have similar recipes you can share with me.

      1. thanks for joining this conversation thread. What is a therapeutic diet? Glad to hear that you have found a way of eating that works for you. -Ashlen, Type2diabetes.com community moderator
