Buzzing in legs and feet

Hello, everyone, this is my first post here. My name is Perrin, I am 55, Type 2, diagnosed 2011, most recent A1C (Jan 2023) was 7.6. I take Jardiance, Toujeo (44 units before bed), and Lyumjev (20 units at meals). As I write this my BG is at 101.

I have had a pretty severe sugar addiction over my life. Even having T2D hasn't stopped me. Like an idiot, I believed as long as I was taking my insulin I could eat what I want. Very stupid, I know. In the past week, I have been experiencing a buzzing vibration in both feet and calves after I eat. It's been intense, not necessarily painful, but very very uncomfortable. I already figured out it's my worst fear - neuropathy - and I am trying to get a fast appt with my podiatrist, but in the meantime, I hope someone who has been through this can maybe calm me down until I can get there.

It was my wakeup call and for the past two days, I have been eating very, very low carb. My thinking was the buzzing would stop once I did that. Well, it has and it hasn't. I notice when I wake up, things are fine - slight buzzing in feet but none in the legs. I have a breakfast of bacon and eggs - no carbs - and two hours later, my sugar is around 100 and no buzzing. Cut to lunch - a salad: spring mix, various non-starchy veggies, egg, cheese, and homemade dressing, and a Glucerna protein drink. Added up, probably 20-25 carbs total, which is my target carb count for the day. Well, immediately, the buzzing starts in the legs and feet and five hours later, it hasn't stopped, even though my BG is right now only 101.

I'm getting scared to eat ANY carbs at all now. It seems only the bacon and eggs didn't affect me. My biggest fear now is losing my feet and legs. I can't handle that, and I 100% did this to myself and I'm committed to getting as healthy as possible. Can anyone give me advice to help it stop or share your own experience with this?

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to give as much info as possible.

Thank you!

Perrin

  1. I know what you're going through. Before I was diagnosed with t2d I felt the buzzing in my legs for the first time. I still do, but not as bad. I'm on Metformin 2x a day. And I'm on insulin once in the morning. I'm on Lantis 15 units. I watch a lot of YouTube videos about diabetic recipes. The more healthy you eat, the less you won't crave unhealthy food anymore. I decided when I got diagnosed, that I would enjoy trying to tweak bad recipes and make them healthy. And it's not bad to eat something unhealthy once in a while. But I like to check my blood sugar levels first. Good luck on finding healthier ways to eat. And I don't really get buzzing in my legs much anymore. I guess it was easier for me to eat better because I am scared of other health issues like kidney problems and dialysis or heart attack or stroke
