Frustrating but Possible to Control

Unbelievable

I would never have believed that I was able to decrease my A1c from 12.4 to 6.4! I had a history of borderline high blood sugar from the time I was about 20 years old.

Family history

With a family history of diabetes (mother and maternal grandmother), I guess it was inevitable. Or was it? I think if I had taken action when I was younger, maybe I could have prevented it.

My journey has been very frustrating and stressful. I’ve had to deal with a total overhaul in my diet, develop an exercise plan, experiment with various medications, and put up with daily finger sticks and constant bloodwork.

A big change for everyone

At times I feel stressed and sometimes depressed. Dealing with Diabetes is a definite roller coaster, for sure! Not only does it cause me stress, it is also stressful for my family. One good point is that it has forced my husband and children to change their eating habits and be more aware of their blood sugar. My sons actually have stopped drinking pop and ask me to check their blood sugar now, too! Seeing what I have gone through is helping them be more conscious of their health! I am thankful for that!
