Nerve pain

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a year ago. I'm a 76-year-old woman that is 20 lbs. overweight, not on any medication, and until this diagnosis, considered myself healthy. In my second A1C test, my numbers dropped from 7 to 6.

I went to a neurologist because I thought I had a pinched nerve as I have tingling, burning, and sharp stabbing pain in my right foot. The next doctor had me take the two-hour A1C test and that's when I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. My pain is what I need to control and I am at a loss as to what to do.
