My Unintended New Year Resolutions

I'm a truck driver, and my company gave me a brand new truck in honor of attaining over 1 million safe miles. It is equipped with a nice refrigerator and a 2,000-watt power inverter to plug in high-powered appliances. I bought a new air fryer during Black Friday sales and planned to buy food and cook food to save money and eat healthily.

When things don't go according to plan

So, what do I mean by unintended New Year's resolutions? My plans with my new truck got derailed before Christmas when the motor messed up, which is highly unusual for a brand new truck. Apparently, according to the shop, it's a design flaw and a fully covered warranty issue.

Because of the holidays, I had to wait over 2 weeks to get the truck back and spent most of that time in a hotel. On top of everything getting pushed back from the issues with the truck, I was sick for 2 weeks which messed up my fitness routine. I had to shift my expectations and figure out how to get on track with realistic goals given the setbacks.

My current goals for 2022

I enjoy running and bike races, so I am focusing on finishing many races this year. This year I'll be participating in more events than ever.

At the time of typing this I've already raced in one 5K obstacle course race. I have several more races lined up through the year and doing ongoing training and focusing on proper nutrition to prepare for this. Some races that I plan to participate in include:

  • Santos Epic 50 mountain bike ride
  • Savage Blitz 3K obstacle course race
  • Spartan Sprint 5K obstacle course race

Hopefully, by the fall of this year, I will have more experience to attempt the 21K Spartan Beast to get a Spartan Trifecta medal!

Why I enjoy runs and obstacle courses

The answer is easy. The races and obstacle courses offer a fun way to exercise and motivate me. Participating in these races helps me keep my diabetes in check in an unconventional way. I feel it's essential to find what motivates you to keep you going and active, so diabetes doesn't win.

An additional advocacy opportunity

This year I have the opportunity to be an affiliate for my favorite supplement company. This allows me to share the products that I have been using and support and help others on their fitness journey. It has given me yet another community to interact with and stay healthy.

If you are interested in trying a race, discuss it with your medical professionals before starting or changing any exercise or supplements. And please be safe out there.
