Wife with type 2, denial

Hi all, new to the forum!
My wife has type 2, doc put her on Met 2000mg per day plus ozempic.
Bowel problems never eased up, she quit taking anything at all for a couple of months. Doc then put her on Met 500 mg and higher ozempic. She’s not taking the Ozympic yet but says she feels great now only taking the time release met. Does not check glucose at all, eats biscuits and gravy, instant mashed potatoes (recently lost teeth), and sweets.
Originally A1C was 11, got it down to 9 6 months ago.
I don’t know what current A1C is as she’s not forthcoming with info. I call her Deadpool, she had Covid really bad, blood clots in lungs plus stroke that 90% paralyzed her right hand. She’s recovered 100%.
My question is, she seems to have zero problems with her current lifestyle, what kind of symptoms should she be having?

  1. Oh and she’s 65 if that’s important.

    1. Thanks for reaching out DanFan. Hard to know where your wife's blood sugar management is if she's not checking her blood sugar and doesn't have a recent HgbA1c. Unfortunately, one can "feel great" while damage is occuring at the cellular level from elevated blood sugar. I'd encourage at least periodic blood sugar monitoring to see what type of numbers are present, especially with eating refined carbohydrates. It may be that her medications are helping to manage it well but it may also be enlightening. Has she added in any physicial activity, even walking?
To answer your question regarding symptoms; as I said, it's possible to be essentially symptom free or not aware of hyperglycemia but that's not without risk. Stroke risk, vision changes, neuropathy to name a few are all at increased risk with poor glycemic control. In addition to speaking with her doctor, these articles may be helpful to you both: Complications: https://type2diabetes.com/living/complication-experiences and SYmptoms: https://type2diabetes.com/symptoms. 1. Thank you for the info. Exercise consists of walking from bedroom to living room, or to car to get fast food.
        Next to none.

        1. Last week at doc visit she did mention he was unhappy she stopped meds and told her to be prepared for high A1C. Also suggested walking.
She goes back in 3 months to reevaluate. She had blood drawn this trip but I’ve no idea of the results. She’s not likely to try to find out before next visit.
